Mother's Day Craft

One of the best gifts you can give (or receive) from a child in your life is something handmade by them. Something that encompasses their little handprint or footprint is even better!

Kids grow so quickly and having that little time stamp is so precious to look back upon. Needless to say, you can’t go wrong with gifting a handmade craft from your kiddo to grandparents or partners, or really any special mom in your life. It is sure to put a smile on their face and be something they will cherish forever.

While searching for Mother’s Day crafts for toddlers, there were so many to choose from. I wanted one that was simple, easy, unique, and sentimental. We make a lot of crafts in our house so I wanted one that was different than the other crafts we make and I finally landed on the one I am going to share with you today.

This cute little craft is a printable digital download from Etsy that has verbiage and some pictures already on it. It is just awaiting your little one’s hands or feet to be stamped in all of their cuteness! I think this is a perfect gift for Mother’s Day. Below, I am going to share with you how we curated our special Mother’s Day gift and the final result so you can replicate one, too!

1. Buy the Digital Download on Etsy

Obviously step one is to buy the digital download from Etsy! You won’t be able to continue with the remainder of the steps until you complete number one. Or, if you are creative, you could make one similar! I am constantly running around and after my toddler and definitely don’t have time to figure out how to make something this cute on my own so I took the easy way out with this one and just purchased it online. Right now you can purchase all 4 downloads for only $5.16! I mean seriously, you can’t beat that, especially with all of the time it saves you. Plus if you’re smart, you’ll use a different one next year so the gift keeps giving!

2. Choose Your Favorite & Print

With 4 different options to choose from, pick one that resonates with you or the person you’re gifting it to. If your child is old enough to choose, you could always let them decide as well.

I decided to go with the butterfly option. I think it is adorable, I love that her fingerprints can make up the sun rays, and the sentiment below it is ridiculously cute.

Next, you’ll want to put some cardstock in your printer, follow the instructions from your Etsy download, and print out your pages.

3. Get Painting!

Set up your favorite washable paint and paintbrush. Our favorite is this washable, non-toxic kids paint set which comes with 12 different vibrant colors to choose from.

For our art project, I chose purple paint for the handprints and yellow paint for the fingerprint sun.

Paint your littles hands and/or feet and gently stamp them onto the pages. My toddler always has so much fun doing this! We take her shirt off for easy cleanup because sometimes it can get a little bit messy, so make sure you are prepared! Washable paint is such a great invention in this regard.

Whenever we do crafts that involve stamping hands, I always clear off my kitchen island and line up all the papers that I want stamped in a row. I will paint one of my daughter’s hands, stamp the first paper, repaint it, and move down the line. Once we are finished stamping one hand on all of the papers, I clean her (and me) up and repeat with the other hand. With my daughter only being 2, if I let her have free reign with this, it would be a gigantic mess! She still has a lot of fun with me holding her and gently pressing her hand onto each paper. We have done it enough times, she knows what to do at this point and gets excited!

4. Optional Painting Opportunities

With the handprint butterfly craft option, comes another painting opportunity! Use your little ones fingerprints to paint the suns rays and dot some of the flowers that line the bottom of the page. This is an adorable touch that I love. Let your child paint free with their fingertips and see all of the personality that shines through!

5. Let Dry & Gift

Of course, you’ll want to let your little one’s masterpiece(s) dry for at least a few hours before you gift them. Your kiddo will love presenting this adorable craft to the special moms in your lives. These are perfect to give as is or pair them with things like a potted plant, a gift card, or providing lunch.

Go the extra mile and laminate your child’s masterpiece so it’ll really last a lifetime! You can find our favorite laminator here.

Mother’s Day is such a special day because moms really do it all. We wake up and give our all every single day in our careers and at home. It doesn’t matter if we are sick or want to tear our hair out sometimes, we still do the dang thing no matter what. Moms are comfortable and safe, moms are sensitive and kind, moms feel like home, because we are to our littles! And at least for me, that never changed as I got older, either!

It’s important to celebrate this day as a family and with all of the special moms in our lives because, in everyday life, we might not always feel appreciated. So, appreciate the heck out of the moms you love this Mother’s Day and gift them with a special, adorable craft that was handmade by one of their favorite littles.

I can’t wait to laminate mine and cherish it for years to come knowing my little one made me a mom and will never be this little again.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the awesome moms out there, you guys rock!

XOXO,

Katie
