The Ultimate July 4th Picnic List

Are you ready to celebrate Independence Day with a scrumptious spread of patriotic delights? One of the things I enjoy most about summer is the outdoor picnics and the delicious foods that accompany them. July 4th is a time for gathering with friends and family, enjoying outdoor festivities, and of course, indulging in delicious food. Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ, heading to a picnic in the park, or planning a festive meal at home, here is a mouthwatering mix of classic and unique food ideas to make your July 4th celebration unforgettable.

1. Grilled Burgers and Hot Dogs

Of course, we can’t forget about this one! Kick off your July 4th feast with classic grilled burgers and hot dogs. Set up a DIY toppings bar with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, cheese, ketchup, mustard, and mayo so everyone can customize their perfect burger or dog. Perfect and easy for your outdoor cookout!

2. BBQ Ribs

Tender, juicy BBQ ribs are a crowd-pleaser at any July 4th gathering. Marinate them overnight in your favorite BBQ sauce and then slow-cook them until they’re fall-off-the-bone delicious. This is honestly one of my favorite meals ever – so good! Make sure you have some baby wipes available for all the messy fingers that will result from this yummy dish.

If you don’t already have a favorite recipe yourself, here is my favorite fall-off-the-bone ribs recipe!

3. Grilled Corn on the Cob

Nothing says summer like sweet, smoky grilled corn on the cob. Brushed with butter and sprinkled with salt, pepper, and a hint of paprika, it’s a simple yet irresistible side dish. Last year was my first time having grilled corn on the cob, I’ve always had it the classic, boiled way. Let me tell you, it is a complete game-changer! You will love eating corn on the cob this way, it is sure to become your new favorite.

4. Red, White, and Blue Fruit Salad

July 4th Foods

Create a festive fruit salad using strawberries, blueberries, and sliced bananas. Arrange them in a patriotic pattern on a platter for a refreshing and healthy addition to your table. This is an easy, but great option. Adding the patriotic flare really takes it to the next level without making things complicated! Not to mention, any type of fruit at a picnic is always one of the first things to go and is a great option for kids.

Make it more of a dessert option by using this Red, White, and Blue Cheesecake Fruit Salad recipe.

5. Firecracker Shrimp Skewers

Add some sizzle to your celebration with firecracker shrimp skewers. Marinate shrimp in a spicy sauce, thread them onto skewers, and grill until they’re charred and flavorful. This unique dish will be sure to impress your guests. It’s easy, delicious, and something different from the norm, something everyone will love.

My favorite shrimp skewers are Bang Bang Grilled Shrimp Skewers. It’s a delicious, sweet, salty, and spicy masterpiece every time!

Offer a colorful veggie platter with a variety of fresh vegetables like carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes. Serve them with a creamy dip for a lighter snacking option. Just like the patriotic fruit salad option, this is another crowd-pleaser that is delicious, healthy, and a great option for all of the kiddos in attendance.

9. All-American Potato Salad

No July 4th celebration is complete without a bowl of creamy, tangy potato salad. Toss boiled potatoes with mayo, mustard, celery, onions, and hard-boiled eggs for a classic side dish that pairs perfectly with grilled fare.

This is my go-to potato salad recipe that pleases even the toughest crowds.

10. S’mores Bar

July 4th Foods

Cap off the evening with a DIY s’mores bar. Set out graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bars, and let everyone create their own ooey-gooey treats over a crackling fire pit while you enjoy setting some fireworks off in the evening. The perfect ending to a wonderful and fun celebration.

Of course, if firing up some s’mores isn’t your style, you could also opt for this s’mores brownies option that is equally as delicious!

With these delicious foods on your July 4th menu, your celebration is sure to be a hit. Enjoy the food, company, and festivities as you celebrate this special day of freedom and unity.

If you’re looking for some yard games to keep the kids (and adults) busy at your picnic, make sure you check out my outdoor toddler games article! Here you will find something that is suited for all.

During the holiday, make sure you leave some time for yourself to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Parties are fun but can also be a lot of work so it’s important to carve out some YOU time during everything! And if you’re the one attending the party, make sure you lend a helping hand to the host so they can enjoy some me time, too.

Happy grilling, and happy Independence Day!
